I took about a billion more pictures than what you see here... and I probably didn't photograph nearly e'rybody. There comes a time when a girl just gets tired of taking pictures. Anyway, if you want to see the rest you can shoot me a message at fitzbomb@yahoo.com and I'll send them your way. Hope you had as much fun as I did.

Stoopin' It

Last night I went to Center Stage for Stoop Stories, a Baltimore-based series of story telling. Hosted by Jessica Henkin and Laura Wexler, the event allows seven people seven minutes to tell their stories.

3

The story tellers: Meshelle, Paulo Gregory Harris, Congressman Elijah Cummings (speaking above,) Charisse Nichols, Dana P. Moore, David Schwartz, and David Ross, spoke on the subject of race in Baltimore.

2

I spent the entire time laughing so hard that I cried. It was an awesome night. I even got to see Charisse imitate Michael McDonald in front of over 500 people.

We post-gamed at Brewers where I ran into Joe. Prune!

OMG! I said reh-tard (that's a reference to The Hangover) in the last post and somebody didn't get it and now they think I was bein' a really big jerk! I'm really not a jerk (promise!) I thought e'ry one has seen that movie. Anyway, that was a movie reference. JS, just sain'. If you haven't seen it, it's high-larious...

Happy Birthday, Christopher!

Last night I went to Christopher's house to celebrate his b-day. I was kind of a retard (pronounced reh-tard)* and didn't take a ton of photos. Oops! Christopher took some gorgeous shots though (duh) and you may be seeing them latah.

Elena Johnston is on Whimsy

As I mentioned before, I'm a big fan of Elena Johnston's illustrations. I decided to throw a few questions her way...

elena

Fitz: Describe your illustrations in a few words.

Elena:Whimsical, Fancy, and Fun.

F:(I heart fancy!)

F:What/who are some of your influences?

EJ: The fashion illustration work on my website is a specific body of work that I created a few years ago, after graduating from MICA. At that time I was mostly influenced by painters such as Egon Schiele and Toulouse Lautrec, who I have loved since I was really young, as well as some modern illustrators.

I like to see them as fine art fashion illustrations. After moving to New York and realizing how difficult is is to break into the fashion world, I moved back to Baltimore and started to embrace other influences that are more important to me anyway. My illustrations mold and change as my life and influences change. Recently I have been interested in collages and drawings for music, mostly for my friends bands that I love. I just finished a new Beach House t-shirt design and also a collage of mine will be used for a Future Islands record that will be coming out sometime soon.

F:What are 3 blogs and/or websites that you like/follow?
EJ: I don't really read blogs but some cool places I like to go to inspire me no matter what are:

Brooklyn, MD thrift store
The Book Thing, Baltimore
Spoonbill and Sugartown Bookstore

ej2

F:Do you plan to stay in Baltimore and make art?

EJ: There are many reasons why a person stays in a place. Baltimore, for me, is influential because of my friends and contemporaries who are making awesome music and art here are so inspiring. When people around you are working hard at the things they love, it also pushes you to continue creating the things you love. I would like to not have to serve people tacos everyday, but for 3 years it has been a flexible way to pay my bills and have time for creating things that I love!

ej1

F: What are 5 things that you love right now?

EJ: Youtube videos of Stevie Nicks, old illustrated maps, getting a new issue of ANP Quarterly, Beach House, Russell Hite's drawings (mostly around our house but can be seen also at russellhite.com)...

F: (Really. Check out Russell's drawings. They're delicious.)

and new Future Islands jams(out in May), icicles that look like hair, lamps made out of old boots, tinctures, cooking books, reading about magic (Wicked 2, Son of a Witch), elephants made out of wood and mirrors, bags full of small bears, romance, making blonde hair blonder, new collages and old frames, Children's books and drawings, ponchos and pom-poms, pictures of boats and waterfalls, Brian Eno mix cds, tapes.

ej

Right now my favorite things to do are find mugs at thrift stores, i love searching for interesting mugs! Also, reading and learning homeopathic ways to treat illnesses or just keeping healthy. I quit smoking 3 weeks ago, and I like that, too.

I am also currently collecting photos of Baltimore bands for a new book.
Thanks, Elena!
Now I know you want to know more. Click here and here for more Elena.

Bunches of new blogs coming this week. And maybe even the return of How To Dress Sex. Joe is feelin' it these days.
See you soon,
