I feel like a total slacker! I started three new paintings last week, but haven't finished them yet...Going to go to the game tomorrow (how about D Lee's walk off HR in the 12th last night?!!!!) and then it's back to business. Promise.

The painting above is from my series of Annapolis people. It is showing at Tsunami (51 West street) until the end of the week.

Hope your Saturday is awesome.

New Painting: Megan Austin

IMG_8522

It's always hard for me to know how best to use my time immediately following the passing of a deadline. For the past couple of months, 10 weeks or so, I've gotten up in the morning and headed to my studio with the idea that time is fleeting and there is a ton of painting to be done.

Of course, with two looming openings past, there is still a ton of painting to be done, and always will be. There are so many people in the world.

The issue is, now that the pressure is off, I think about taking time to do things like going to the pool or reading in a cafe all afternoon. Sounds pretty enticing. Is it cool to take these breaks, or are these activities distractions from my ultimate goal? When I have a deadline marked on my iCal I don't have to think about it. While everyone deserves a break today, doesn't celebrating the tiny accomplishments, finishing paintings for a show, losing 5lbs, or getting an A on a test, for example, just distract from achieving something big? I tend to think so...

And so back to the studio I go.

I really like the freshness of this painting. I was worried about starting this piece because the lighting in my reference photos wasn't exactly ideal. The subject was really washed out with harsh light. In the end, the lack of detail gives way to lush brushstrokes of simply color mapped planes. I dig it.

If you are reading this in Baltimore, I hope you're enjoying this great Monday weather. It kind of rules. ok, I'm off...

Later skaters,

I don't find myself painting a lot of pet portraits, but when you are in the middle of a human photo shoot and you meet a pup as cute as this how can you pass it up? Right?

The opening in Annapolis was SO FUN, btw. I met a ton of new people...what a blast! Thanks to Scott at Tsunami for the awesome food and putting on the show, Gab for teaching me about Corona Lite w a dash of OJ vodka, and Emily Rabbit & Adam Gonzo for playing the jams!

xo got to go,

SHINE CREATIVE VIDEO: ERIN FITZPATRICK

SHINE CREATIVE - ERIN FITZPATRICK from SHINE CREATIVE on Vimeo.

So much thanks to Drury Bynum, Jamie Campbell, and Matt Kirby from Shine Creative TV for putting this together! CHECK THEM OUT!

I also want to thank these guys for supporting me even BEFORE the first portraits were painted. They've exhibited my art and have given me great press and encouragement all along the way... CHECK THEM OUT!

So it was awesome for Shine Creative to come to my studio and shoot this video (2009/2010.) I am really thankful that they didn't let me "sound like a dope," and that shortly after this I a) bought a Macbook Pro, b) grew my bangs out c) went on a diet. Lulz.

I have SO much to post, so...

Smell ya later!
& Thanks always to Shine Creative

Friday News Roundup/New In-Progress

New In-Progress

Here's a little peek at the paintings that I started yesterday. After procrastinating ALL DAY blogging, sitting on my deck, messing around on the interwebs, and finally activating my tumblr, I got to work in the studio. I have 12 days to finish these, and three more paintings. And that means I'll prolly be hanging them a little wet...

New In-Progress

Today's breaking news is that I've added tumblr to the many ways I can bug y'all on the world wide web. "What's the difference?" you ask. The difference is that my tumblr gives you the images w/o all my gibber-jabber:

- I'm attempting to post one face (painting, photograph, or drawing of my original art) every day for a year. You can help hold me to it!

- Some of y'all don't get my sense of humor and take EVERYTHING I say seriously. Now you can just look at pictures.

- Around this way people (excluding business owners, promoters, etc) are afraid of social networking beyond facebook. Following my tumblr can be your first baby step into the future. You don't even have to "get twitter" to do it!

- Wuh, wuh, wuh, wuh wuh. Wuh? Wuh!

So, what are you waiting for?!

Also, if you have super sweet suggestions of tumblr pages that I should follow, hit a sister up!

Enjoy your weekends for me. Mine is pretty much shot w/ work stuff. Believe me, I'll appreciate every little splash of rose or Corona Lite that you tip out for your homie, Fitzbomb.

Kisses,
-Fitz

There are even MORE photos on my flickr! Click any photo to get there. Ok, it's 5 o'clock. I have to get to work. Five new paintings in the next 13 days...no problemo.

I guess I can't say, "smell you later" two days in a row, so

Gotta run, son!

Art Opening @ Tsunami Annapolis: You're Invited!

tsunami poster

Ok, I'm gonna invite y'all, all y'all, to this opening. It's a little out of the way for most of my people, so I'm going to go ahead and extend the invitation. I'll be showing 10 new paintings based on the Annapolis set. Click HERE to RSVP.

Press Release

Baltimore artist, Erin Fitzpatrick, announces the latest exhibit from her ongoing portrait series.

Annapolis, Maryland (June 2, 2011)-

Artist, Erin Fitzpatrick, has announced the exhibition of the latest installation of paintings from her ongoing portrait series. The exhibit will run from June 16th - July 31st at Tsunami in Annapolis (51 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401-2420 (410) 990-9868)

Erin Fitzpatrick, MICA graduate and Baltimore-based portrait artist, will be exhibiting eleven paintings from her portrait series originally entitled, Baltimore Portrait. Started in mid 2008, this project now contains nearly 100 paintings and drawings of people who live in and around Baltimore city.

I think of it as collecting as many people as I can, but it is really a documentation of the youth, 20-30 somethings, who make up this city in the opening decades of the millennium. Because the population is ever evolving and larger than I can paint in my lifetime, I stave off being overwhelmed by painting people related to the space where I am exhibiting.” Says Fitzpatrick.

Since her inaugural exhibit in August of 2008, Fitzpatrick has participated in many solo and group exhibitions, has been excepted into a forthcoming residency at Vermont Studio Center, and has added collectors in both Europe and the United States. She will be featured in Baltimore Magazine’s July issue and looks forward to meeting many new people through her ongoing series. Her cast of characters includes the likes of Blaqstarr, Lower Den’s Jana Hunter, Celebration’s Katrina Ford and Dave Bergender, and even MTV’s The Hills’ Holly Montag.

Each 12”x12” portrait is painted in oil on a 1 5/8” birch panel box.
